The Judy Genshaft Honors College at University of South Florida provides centralization for Honors students and faculty who were previously scattered on campus. Constructed by Beck-Envision, the new-build structure is 86,845 SF and five stories tall with zero straight lines in its design.
The building is particularly characterized by its reflective, two-toned outside tiles, which were imported from Italy and switch colors throughout the day. When the sun is low, their color is a pale maroon; when the sun is high, their color is a deep sage. Not only do the reflective metal tiles contribute to the building’s beauty, but they also adapt to Tampa’s climate by reducing heat absorption.
Inside the Honors College are 36 studying cubbies stacked in levels, classrooms with noise-canceling acoustic panels, performance and creative spaces, an Art and Food studio with a full kitchen, offices for faculty and administrative use, indoor and outdoor lounge areas, an outdoor amphitheater, an outdoor classroom, a multi-purpose lobby with large-scale event capacity, and a Buddy Brew open to USF and the public.
